As a creative who focuses on the" inner life," trusting the intuitive and her base instincts, she does not paint from life but becomes a conduit for what wants to be expressed. She describes it as a "playing with nature," and riding the ever-flowing current.

    Carol portrait

A figurative artist, Bowie’s work, a free and spontaneous playing for the most part is guided by intuitive impulses and responses filtered through her contemporary interior landscape. She employs various media: painting, printmaking, clay and mixed media in her creative expression. An Open Studio artist for more than two decades, exhibiting work locally and throughout California, the work can also be found in private and corporate collections locally, nationally and abroad. Significant pieces of Bowie’s work were recently acquired from the Betty Heil’s private collection by the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History and the Santa Cruz County Government Center for their permanent collection.

She has served as board member for the Santa Cruz County Arts Commission and committee member for the Cultural Council’s annual Open Studio Arts event. Bowie has been honored for her work, receiving awards for excellence in the field of creativity and service, “The Gail Rich Award” and “Distinguished Artist of the Year award.” Carol welcomes visitors to her studio year round.
